Printed sheet music is silent. An online player shows the same music with sound, a line that follows the beat, and controls a page cannot have. Used well, it turns practice into playing. Here is how to practise piano sheet music online with sound.

1. Listen once, then read

For a new piece, listen once while following the moving line. You learn the character and the tempo. Then read it yourself, slowly, without the sound.

2. Slow it down

Set the speed to a tempo where you can keep going without stopping. In the iCanPiano player the speed runs from very slow to fast, and the music keeps its pitch.

3. One hand at a time, with the other sounding

Mute one hand and play it yourself while the player plays the other. You hear the whole piece and stay in time, even while you are learning only half of it.

4. Repeat the hard bars

Loop a few difficult bars and play them several times in a row, then return to the whole piece.

5. Read in iCanPiano Style

The player shows every piece in iCanPiano Style, where every black key shows in the note, and you can switch to standard notation at any moment, even while the music plays.

  • F sharp: right half black. Play the black key to the right of F.
  • B flat: left half black. Play the black key to the left of B.
  • B natural: no natural sign. A note that is all black or all white is played on a white key.
