The story of iCanPiano Style

I have been trying to make sheet music easier to read since 2000, when I was a music student. I tried many ideas over the years. The one that changed everything started with a white pen.

I took a page of music, erased the key signature, and painted half of each black-key note white. The first try was confusing, and I was disappointed. It made so much sense. Why wasn't it easier?

A few hours later I sat down with a Chopin piece I had marked the same way. After two lines it clicked. The black keys jumped out before I reached them, and my hands simply knew where to go.

Then I gave the music to other people without telling them anything had changed. Even music teachers didn't notice the difference. They just opened it and played.

Since then I have played Bach, Brahms and Rachmaninoff for the pleasure of it. And I am no longer afraid of sheet music. I made iCanPiano Style so you won't be either.
